Glorious weather with deep blue skies and warm sunshine made this a perfect riding day.
Crazybikeguy could ride in shorts and a short sleeved shirt! Happy day!
Leaving Aix-en Provence at 8.30 am and navigating through city streets and trying to avoid highways and non cyclist friendly urban roads proved to be a challenge and Grant was happy to leave the urban sprawl behind him and head for the hills - literally.
Heading South, the first 3 km were downhill and the next 25 km were a steady climb up the mountain. On reaching the top, the view looking back over Aix was beautiful but over the other side lay a huge imposing power plant - not a pretty sight!

Grant then made his way into the rural land- some of it untouched, some of it farm land and as he made his way closer to Toulon he came across more and more vineyards and wineries on his way.
The second climb at the 40 kilometer mark was one that went on for 20 kilometers and on reaching the peak of that mountain a wonderful view of La-Seyne-sur-Mer in the distance awaited. The descent was great as the roads were dry and relatively deserted so going down was fast and pleasant.
The most scenic and impressive gorge awaited at the bottom and Grant found cycling through these imposing rocky outcrops exhilarating! Unfortunately there wasn't really a place to stop that was safe to take photographs so unfortunately there will only be Go Pro footage which we won't be able to share with you on here.
Having very sore knees from cycling into the wind for the last two days and pushing so hard and trying to not focus on the painful insteps of his feet from the standing and riding, Grant concentrated on the wonderful vistas and marvelous southern French
scenery on his way into Toulon.
It wasn't an easy ride today by any means but much more relaxed.Stopping at some beautiful towns on the way and just taking in the wonderful scenery made the time spent on the bike today fantastic.
89.4 km in the saddle today and almost 1000 m of climbing!

Wow... not an easy ride after the body battering that preceded this stage. Not surprised Crazybikeguy had sore knees and foot insteps! Pity there wasn't time to see a physio to help ease the pain. So pleased the scenic countryside helped divert his attention somewhat. I can picture Grant 'freewheeling' down the mountainside and getting a huge, exhilarating adrenaline and endorphin rush! A natural 'high'!! Gorgeous photos yet again!! x
