April 10th: Bratislava, Slovakia - Gyor, Hungary "Feeling strong!"

Kilometre count update: The Crazy Bike Guys have ridden an incredible 984 km so far! Almost at the 1,000 km milestone — keep pushing, Grant and Julian!

Bratislava, Slovakia - Gyor, Hungary = 81km with a 197m climb in 3 Hours and 32 minutes!

Leaving Bratislava just after 9am the boys seemed to speed to their next destination on a very grey cloudy day with rain threatening and very cool temperatures. The tailwind was so welcome as they made their way along paths shadowed by huge wind turbines on their way to Gyor on very safe Eurovelo bike tracks and a decommissioned highway path.

Lots of birdlife – with some white-tailed eagles being spotted (Eurasian Eagles) according to the Bird Guide.

A pretty uneventful day with a much needed petit four and coffee stop along the way. Both of the Crazybikeguys are finding their rhythm and are feeling strong – commenting on weight “displacement” – less tummy fat and more leg muscles being refined and toned.

Caramel Kit kats are featuring heavily in the snack stops, as are doughnuts and bananas, keeping up the carb intake as they pedal along the Hungarian countryside.

Gyor is the midpoint between Budapest and Vienna, the sixth largest city in Hungary and a main regional centre. It has a thriving arts scene, enthralling Baroque architecture and rich culinary traditions- which Grant is seemingly addicted to in the form of traditional Goulash soup!

The city centre lies at Kaptalan Hill at the confluence of three rivers, the Mosoni Danube, Raba and Rabca Rivers and its oldest buildings are from the 13th Century. Since 2000 it has had many modern additions to its city scape as it keeps up with the burgeoning Hungarian economy.

The boys are now doing “double dinners” – a hearty snack at 4 pm and then a pub visit and proper meal for dinner time to keep up with the required protein and carbohydrate intake.
