61 kilometres with 391m of climbing.

A cheerful happy day in the countryside dotted with many hares, rabbits, pheasants and a lone eagle made a pleasant change from the last week of grey and gloomy days.
Lots of people waving and smiling and greeting the Crazybikeguys has made a world of difference to the mood as did the quaint coffee stop that provided a sublime slice of apple pie and a Coffee Tonic – the new favourite refreshment; a shot of espresso, tonic water and a slice of lemon!
The mild tailwind helped as they climbed up at an 18 degree angle at some point as did the lovely fresh jam doughnuts that they enjoyed on the side of the lake whilst having a break.
Most of the tracks that they will be riding on are Eurovelo paths which really make riding in Europe such a pleasurable experience if you can ignore the cold and the wind at this time of year.

The scenery has changed considerably and is much prettier. There are interesting buildings and churches dotted along the way and even though the sun only made a brief appearance, riding in 8 degrees wasn’t that bad when one has lovely scenery to enjoy.
Arriving in Mikulov was lovely and the boys loved their prebooked spot as well as the delicious cuisine and the very friendly people that have made a real effort to communicate in English and are incredibly helpful.
Mikulov is a small enclave with only 7600 inhabitants in the Southern Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, an ancient Jewish settlement made of of settlers expelled from Vienna and nearby places. The main sight is the Mikulov Castle, built in Romanesque style and was later rebuilt in the Baroque style, which overlooks the town square. Most of the beautiful churches are from the 17th and 18th Centuries, and the Jewish Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter was rebuilt in 1719 after a disastrous fire.
Mikulov is also a very important wine region and boasts the Mikulovska Wine Trail as a tourist destination in the area. The place where Crazybikeguys stayed for the night is owned by a wine enthusiast who had spent a few weeks in South Africa recently and just loved going to the wine farms in the Cape! The world is a small place…
